“Ukrvinprom” has signed a Cooperation Agreement to strengthen the protection of the interests of Ukrainian producers

The Ukrainian Сorporation for Viticulture and Wine Production Industry “Ukrvinprom,” has officially signed a Cooperation Agreement with the National Interprofessional Cognac Bureau. This agreement is the result of a decade of collaborative work in the protection of geographical indications of “Cognac” within and beyond the territory of Ukraine, as required by the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

In collaboration with and with the support of “Ukrvinprom,” the National Interprofessional Bureau Cognac will take legal actions in case of counterfeit and/or falsification of imported alcoholic beverages with the geographical indication “Cognac.” These measures will protect Ukrainian consumers not only from subpar products from other countries but will also help improve the state of the domestic winemaking industry, which is currently facing a crisis due to widespread infiltration.

Another positive aspect of this agreement is the engagement of Ukrainian wine industry experts in joint scientific activities. They will have the opportunity to participate in short specialized courses on technology, production quality, geographical indication protection, regulatory frameworks, and more under the auspices of the National Interprofessional Bureau Cognac in collaboration with the Scientific Center “Ukrainian Wine Institute.” This way, young industry specialists will receive high-quality professional development on the path to enhancing their own products.

It’s worth noting that, thanks to the combined efforts of “Ukrvinprom” and representatives of the National Interprofessional Bureau Cognac, as of November 1, 2022, the supply of alcoholic beverages labeled with the geographical indication “Cognac” that do not meet regulatory acts and standards ceased within the territory of Ukraine.
